New to dance?

Thinking about learning to dance but not sure where to start? Maybe you’re worried you have two left feet, or you’ve never taken a dance class before. Don’t worry—you’re in the right place! The Zen & Zest Dance Retreat is designed specifically to make your first steps into dance fun, easy, and pressure-free.

Here’s everything you need to know about getting started:

Common concerns & hesitations…

"I have two left feet!"
Everyone starts somewhere! Dancing isn’t about being perfect—it’s about moving, feeling the rhythm, and having fun. The retreat is a safe space where you can learn step by step at your own pace.

"I’m too old / too unfit / not coordinated."
Dance is for all ages and abilities! You don’t need to be an athlete or naturally graceful to start. Our classes focus on comfort, confidence, and enjoyment—not competition.

"Will I feel out of place?"
Absolutely not! Many of our guests are complete beginners, and the retreat is built around support, encouragement, and fun. You’ll be learning alongside people just like you!

Why join a dance holiday or retreat instead of regular classes?

A dance retreat is the best way to start your dance journey. Why? Because:

  • It’s immersive – You’re surrounded by dance, music, and movement, which helps you learn faster.

  • It’s in a beautiful setting – No distractions, no stress—just pure enjoyment.

  • It’s about connection – You'll bond with others who share your excitement.

  • It’s structured for progress – You’ll build confidence in a way that weekly classes back home simply can’t match.

Unlike trying to fit in a one-hour class once a week, here you’ll get focused time to develop strong foundations that will make dancing feel natural.

Half schedule (9 hours) or full schedule (18 hours) – which should you choose?

We offer two options so you can tailor the experience to your energy and goals.

Half Schedule (9 hours):

  • Ideal if you want to mix dancing with relaxation.

  • Enjoy your dance sessions while also having time to explore, unwind, and recharge.

Full Schedule (18 hours):

  • Best for those who want to dive deeper and make faster progress.

  • More practice, more variety, and a stronger foundation in just one retreat.

Not sure which to pick? Half is great for balance, full is great for intensity! And you can upgrade if you want to once you get there!

Why this will set you up for success back home

One of the biggest frustrations for new dancers is not knowing where to start when looking for classes at home. This retreat will:

✔ Teach you the right foundations so you don’t pick up bad habits.
✔ Give you the confidence to join dance socials and group classes.
✔ Help you understand what to look for when choosing a dance school.

By the time you leave, you’ll feel ready to keep dancing, no matter where you are!

How does this compare to other ways of learning?

Many people try different learning methods, but not all are beginner-friendly. Here’s how our retreat compares:

Latin dance festivals (intensive events)
❌ Often fast-paced and geared towards experienced dancers.
❌ Large crowds, quick workshops, and limited personal attention.
✔ Our retreat breaks things down step by step in a relaxed setting.

Big group classes at dance schools
❌ Often have many students and little personal guidance.
❌ Hard to get feedback if you’re struggling.
✔ Our retreat has structured learning with expert teachers who support you.

1-on-1 private lessons (at the very beginning)
❌ Can be expensive and unnecessary for beginners.
❌ Doesn’t offer the fun and energy of dancing in a group.
✔ Learning in a small, supportive group helps build rhythm, social skills, and confidence.

Online learning (courses & YouTube tutorials)
❌ No real-time feedback – you won’t know if you’re doing it correctly.
❌ Hard to develop musicality & connection without a partner or group energy.
❌ Can feel isolating, leading to lack of motivation.
✔ Our retreat provides live instruction, corrections, and a fun, social atmosphere to keep you engaged.

While online videos can be useful for review, learning in person is the best way to truly understand movement, rhythm, and connection–especially if you value community and connection!

This is the most fun, pressure-free way to get started!

  • No intimidating dance studios.

  • No pressure to be “good” or get everything right.

  • Just music, movement, and a welcoming community!

Dancing is about feeling good, moving with joy, and connecting with others—and that’s exactly what you’ll experience at Zen & Zest.

Benefits of learning Latin dance
